for dinner tonight: horseradish greens

Horseradish is a powerful and pungent plant that is connected to a wide variety of health benefits, including its ability to aid weight loss, lower blood pressure, alleviate respiratory conditions, build strong bones, improve immune system health, stimulate healthy digestion, promote heart health, and lower the chances of neural tube defects in infants. Perhaps most notably, horseradish can prevent cancer due to its extremely high levels of glucosinolates.

A few weeks ago I was really suffering with sinus problems, and as I sat in the allotment I wonder what could help me naturally balance my body. And there it was, the massive and beautiful Horseradish leaves just awaiting me. I have been watching them grow near the potato patch and didn't know what it was until yesterday.
Horseradish Greens by Sally Hares
During the 18th century, the most popular documented way to get rid of a sinus infection was to put 1/4 tsp of freshly grated horseradish on your tongue and ‘hold it in your mouth until all the flavour is gone’. It goes on to say that ‘this will immediately cut through the infected mucus and let it drain down the throat. This will relieve the pressure in your sinuses and help clear infection.’ ! I’ve never tried this remedy- it makes sense – but if you’ve ever peeled and grated fresh horseradish root, you’ll know that the smell affects your eyes and nose far more than any strong raw onions, so I think I’d only try it as an absolute last resort…
Now’s the time for you to look out for horseradish growing wild. It’s easy to spot if you know what Dock leaves look like, they’re very similar. If you’re unsure, rip a piece of the leaf off and give it a smell. You’ll know immediately whether it’s Dock or Horseradish, the leaves have the same delicious fragrance as the root.
Horseradish Greens as a side dish
Most people know that horseradish root tastes amazing with most roast or baked things (including roast beetroot – yum!), but what a lot of people don’t know is that the leaves of the horseradish are delicious too. Horseradish greens are an absolute delight prepared simply or used in a stir fry. They have an irony rich cabbage flavour, but are quite pokey with a horseradish mustardy taste.

Immune System Health and Cancer Prevention:
Horseradish is packed with beneficial nutrients and phytochemicals, some of which give it the distinctive, pungent odor. These components have been found to have antioxidant characteristics that boost the strength of the immune system and stimulate the activity and production of white blood cells, the body’s main line of defense. The vitamin-C content of horseradish is also impressively high, which boosts the strength of the immune system and joins the defensive forces against free radicals.
Some of these chemicals are various forms of isothiocyanate and sinigrin
In terms of cancer prevention, sinigrin is also a glucosinolate, a specific type of antioxidant that is beneficial in the defense of cancerous growth. It inhibits the mutation of healthy cells into cancerous cells, which occurs due to free radicals in the body, which are hazardous byproducts of cellular metabolism that must be continually flushed out of the body. By adding a dollop of horseradish sauce to various foods, you are increasing your ability to fight off cancer and delay the spread of metastasis of cancerous cells if you have already contracted one of the deadly forms of cancer.

Santo Movie

Yes, GMO linked to yet another health issue going wild. The blanket has been lifted and the people are catching on WITH the sickening facts! We must change our lifestyles and spread the news for others to do the same. Change starts at home, reaching others happens in many ways. This movie will reach others across the globe. We are going to hit others where they're at, the movies!

Santo 7.13.15 will do this, it's a film unlike any other. People will soon see the terror that can come from this. We are still able to make our choices, but Santo 7.13.15 shows a world where our choices are manipulated into pushing us into situations we never would have agreed to.

Let's make this happen, we can awake the masses and you can have a part in it! Anyone can pledge $1, $3, $5, $100, an amount within your own means, and you could be a part of something phenomenal, something bigger than anything ever done.
...
We need your help to do it.

Ramadan: Day 15

More triggers presented to me, yet it only takes me further into the realization of Duality. And duality is transcended by accepting, forgiving and being grateful.

I have noticed the amazing improvements in fasting/detox for a few days every week. In this case fasting is a conscious choice made for the benefit of the physical form. But, again by choice, I have allowed this period to be spiritual by accepting the triggers as one’s teachers.

It is an internal process.

It is my understating that some who take actions because they are “obligated” are losing out in the amazing opportunity to conscious choice. This same concept applies to God, for to be “obligated” to say that you believe in God is not the same as believing in God.

And sadly millions of people across the world are being robbed of the amazing opportunity to realize Unconditional Love.

And many other areas of our lives are being manipulated by the same principle. From very young age we were constantly subjected to the influence and believe in our lack of personal power. We were conditioned by Fear.

But all you need is Love.

The version of reality that has been suggested to us is but a lie. Yet the Divine plan has no matching opposite force as one of the name lies we were told. And the Indigos and Crystal are cleaning and healing the way.

Life is abundant. There is plenty for all of us and more. We are not overpopulated and we do not need to compete against one another for supplies, or against other forms of life in this planet. We do not need to destroy Nature to remove what we need as Nature has always and will always provide for all our needs.

Women are not weak. We have amazing bodies that evolved/designed to handle our physical needs and desires. I am reading ‘Childbirth without Fear’ and the principles of the book are amazing whatever you are planning in having children or not and for women and man alike to read and learn how Fear is used to manifest our emotions against our natural instincts.

There is no us and them. Separation and segregation is but an evil tool to keep us ignorant and powerless. InLakesh and Love thy neighbours.

Sex Ed is Harmful to Girls

How Our Current Approach to Sex Ed is Harmful to Girls | Julie Kay & Ashley Jackson

"Our research shows that the more girls buy into stereotypes about how they are supposed to behave in relationships— most notably not to express or act on ...their own feelings and focus on others’—and about treating their own bodies as objects, the lower their self-esteem and the more depressed they are." Deborah L. Tolman, Professor of Human Sexuality Studies

"The gender stereotypes that abstinence-only [sex ed] curriculum contain are particularly harmful to young women. Abstinence-only curricula often portray girls as naturally chaste and boys as constantly struggling to control their rampant sexuality and raging hormones. Often these stereotypes undermine female sexual decision-making as well as female achievement by invoking age-old myths. For example, one curriculum ...teaches that “women gauge their happiness and judge their success by their relationships” while “men’s happiness and success" hinge on their accomplishments.”

[Another] curriculum warns: females need to be careful with what they wear, because males are looking! The girl might be thinking fashion, while the boy is thinking sex. For this reason girls have an added responsibility to wear modest clothing that doesn’t invite lustful thoughts.

...These sexist stereotypes so prevalent in abstinence-
only education are particularly harmful for young women during adolescence. This “hidden curriculum” on gender—teaching men and women “proper” gender roles as a necessary, but unacknowledged, part of teaching abstinence-only—portrays women as socially and sexually submissive and strips them of ownership of their own ambitions and desires. For young women, there is already a strong stigma attached to female sexual agency. Research shows that many young women feel that they lack power to make autonomous sexual decisions, a lack that often leads to risky, unhealthy, and unwanted sexual experiences."

Shame: the perk of being a women???

so Muslim friend shared the message below:

To all my Muslim sisters...

Sometimes,
I want to open my hijab,
and show the world,
that I too,
am beautiful in the people’s definition.

But,
deep down here,
in my little heart,
I know that beauty is by definition,
...
a mystery.
and it is forever more rewarding,
to be beautiful in God’s eyes.

Sometimes,
I want to wear ruffled dresses and tight jeans,
show off what I really look like,
under those baggy shirts and loosely fitted pants,
make a statement,
that I too,
have a figure and worth looking at.

But,
I know better,
to avoid entering the world of men’s imagination,
for I love my future husband,
and I am ashamed,
what should be his, has already been unveiled by others.

Sometimes,
I want to show the world,
the other side of me,
the bubblier, bolder, and crazier me.
put myself on display,
for everyone to see,
to be desired, and admired upon.

But,
I know that eyes are not just eyes,
seeing is not just seeing,
image and respect are gained,
shame and humility deserve a better place.

The trigger here is how Shame is being promoted as if it is a virtual quality women should seek.
But then sycronicity provided a truly empowered reply:

We Weren’t Born with Shame | Brenne Brown

"Our culture teaches us about shame—it dictates what is acceptable and what is not. We weren’t born craving "perfect" bodies. We weren’t born afraid to tell our stories. We weren’t born with a fear... of getting too old to feel valuable. We weren’t born with a Pottery Barn catalog in one hand and heartbreaking debt in the other. Shame comes from outside of us—from the messages and expectations of our culture. What comes from the inside of us is a very human need to belong, to relate."

Ramadan: more Day 7 and Day 8

Realization Day 7

I have resisted all interactions with a certain person in my life and all that she represents. It’s not that I choose not to participate, it’s more like I choose to ignore. I have completely alienated her without consideration for the waves I have created. As usual, I tried to completely ignore that which I cannot handle.

But we can handle all challenges that are presented to Us.

My fear comes from myself, from not wanting to allow my human side to show up. Fear of getting involved beyond my comfort zone.

I have come to this realization before and done nothing about it.

How inconsiderable of me

How disconnected was I to the human being in front of me, to the human being crying out for help and attention, to my change to allow my inner light to shine and be of service to another.

Life has provided me a simple situation, yet I made it into a big drama,

No more timelines – I have lived this moment already.

Day 8

Yesterday’s Anger lead to positive constructive realizations, but it also meant I gave in to food.

Today is the turn of Pain. And I am embracing it, I know this situation is caused by restrictions/resistance to life. And was too quick to give it up for comfort food and cup of coffee.

Although I don’t know what it is, I am trying to remain at ease. It may be something to do with my daily routine and my lack of satisfaction or initiative to change.

Being active is going well, although I not following the fast as others do (as all rules are made to be broken, even the ones I set up for myself) but have noticed an improvement in my physical form. And my attitude is also changing as I am consciously trying to be more compassionate to others.
